Pigmentary keratitis

Poor Sasha. Her inner eye folds were irritating her eyeballs, so brown pigment was accumulating on her cornea, sort of like scar tissue. She had surgery for it a couple of years ago, and is on cyclosporine eyedrops everyday to stop progression. I worry tho. I try to keep track of the pigment, just in case it gets a lot worse.

Vulnerable to attack

Sasha was lying on sofa, looking ever so cute.

I couldn't resist a snuggle-squeeze.

She was horrified at the invasion of her personal space. Such a private pug.

Cleo sleeps a lot

This pug is somehow able to fall instantly asleep, anywhere. In front of the patio doors.

On the sofa.

On top of one of my 100% dupioni silk, hand decorated pillows.

Happy to be at the beach again

The pugs are starting to love going to Muir Beach.

Who doesn't love sand between the toes?

We left a lot of these all over the tideline.

The puglets were pooped afterwards. Not even a peep to let their sandy butts onto our laps.

Bathtime

Cleo is molting. With the warm weather, she's losing her entire undercoat. Which, in this half-breed animal, is silky fawn fur. ALL OVER OUR HOUSE. She got a bath. .

So did Sasha.

Neither pug was amused.

Sleeping again

Cleo is exhausted. From all that sleeping she does all day.

Pugs are s-PUNK-y!

Sasha felt good enough to try and damage Cleo this past afternoon.

Pug seatbelts

I've gotten a little crazy with safety lately. People in our area drive like lunatics, and I worry about an unsecured pug flying thru the windshield when I inevitably have to brake suddenly. I went out and emergently got some fleecy, padded seatbelt harnesses from Petco.

They snap on quickly, connect easily to seatbelts, have nice soft fleecy padding, and are constructed with a little bit of elastic so that I don't end up with strangled pug. However. They are not at all designed for turgid pug bodies. Poor Sasha looks like she's in a straitjacket.

And it's a little ridiculously too easy for them to wriggle out of them at inopportune moments. Sigh. The search goes on.

Bunni's care package

The puglets were verrrry interested in the care package I was putting together for Bunni. They were a little confused, tho. Sasha says -- mommy, why are these toys not for us?

Beach play

We spent the weekend with our friends in Santa Cruz. They live right next to Seacliff beach, which of course the puglets loved.

Seacliff is much larger than Muir beach, at home. The girls had a fantastic time running on the 2 mile stretch of sand.

They were even willing to make friends with some of the other dogs.

Cleo got quite a lotta sand on her face.

So did Sasha.

BunnibunnibunniBUNNI!!

More pics of SashaCleo's cousin, Bunni! Pics are courtesy of her new parents.

Here she is with her new overjoyed humans.

She shows intense curiousity about her new home.

She says -- I am regal pug.

Bunni is tired from the excitement of the first day. Like a true princess pug, tho, she does not forget to pose for the camera.

New toy

The very spoiled pugs got themselves ordered up another toy. I saw mention of a Hide-a-Squirrel toy on one of my fave pug blogs, www.shelbypug.com. I immediately went to order it, saw several different versions, and decided on the Hide-a-Bee. This toy is ingenious. There are 3 individual stuffed bee toys, each with squeakers, which get stuffed into a hive.

The fun is getting the bees out of the hive. Note Sasha doing her best to extract a pesky bee.
Then the pugs go nuts chewing on the bees and getting them to squeak. and getting us to throw the bees for fetch. and, in Cleo's case, chewing on the bottom of an empty hive in the hopes that yet another bee will fall out.

Must I do everything myself

I decided that the pug princesses needed scarves. Something for those days where it's not cold enough for sweaters, but definitely too chilly to be Naked. I found that scarves are not a popular pet item. Impossible to find. Frustrated, I decided to a) teach myself to knit, and b) knit the girls up some scarves. The poor pugs were victims of my first attempt.

ooooooh, there will be many more of those coming your way, my pretties.
