Tried and true toy-retrieval technique

Deedee's fave toy is... well... all toys. But we think that the small tennis ball toy is one of her true favorites. Why do we think this? Because of the way she sacrifices life and limb to go after it.

She is, on occasion, successful.

Beach trip

There's not much that the puglets love more than going to the beach. For Sasha, it's the feel of the sand between her toes and the wind in her ears. For Cleo, it's the plethora of picnic food available -- ours and strangers'. For Deedee, it's the acre or so of delectable, grain-like treats that the rest of us call sand.

After all that, um, activity, the pug princesses are just exhausted. Enough to snuggle together in one big pile of pug.

Cleo has found a good sleeping spot, too

In her dad's tummy nook. Nothing better.

So many sleeping positions, so little time

Deedee is not a very particular pug. Especially when it comes to sleep. A pug can really catch a few winks anywhere.

Multiple choice

A) Cleo is yawning. It is a lazy Sunday afternoon, and she's about to snuggle with the nearest pug and take a nap.

B) Cleo is roaring. She has had enough of the puppy taking over all of her personal space, and she is sounding her resentment.

C) Cleo is checking her breath. She is a very conscientious pug when it comes to dental hygeine, and she wants to make sure she is fresh.

The Grand Dame

My darling pug. She's grey, she's half-blind, arthritic, and selectively deaf, but she'll always be my first girl.

New patio furniture

After months of indecision, we finally settled on what kind of furniture we wanted for the deck. First to arrive was the lounge chair! The pugs like it.

As a matter of fact, Sasha was the first to identify the new furniture as something that pugs could lie upon. She immediately demanded to be allowed to investigate.

Cleo and Deedee were not too far behind.

Sasha's dirty ears

Well, actually, not that dirty anymore.

Poor Cleo

Cleo and I spent the majority of the day trekking back and forth from UC Davis, home of the vet consultants. The recent presumed food allergy episode was the final straw for us -- Cleo needed to see a specialist for her numerous allergies. The appointment was 2 and 1/2 hours. There was a lot of questioning (of me) and gentle examining (of the pug), but luckily no needles, no blades and most importantly, no emotional trauma.

Still, Cleo knows to milk the whole experience for as much love as possible.

The plot thickens...

Why does Deedee look so surreptitious?

Because she has embedded herself into Cleo's armpit.

And wedged herself on top of Sasha.

Beach outtake

Sasha thought Cleo may have been on to something. And, in the process, she uncovered her slightly more affectionate side.

stop. taking. pictures.

She may be half-blind, but she has certainly not lost her facial eloquence.

Beach weekend

It so rarely gets hot here, that when it does, the entire town is completely incapacitated. It's all we can talk about, in between sipping cool drinks and panting for cool air. Thus, the mass exodus to the local beach.

Everyone and their pug was there.

Even the - gasp! - non-pugs were there. The puglets' fave furry friends, Peanut and Scout, came along for a little fun in the sun.

Sasha likes nothing better than the feeling of sun-warmed fur. Funny pug.

Actually, there is little better than a sun-warmed nap.

Cleo prefers her shaded perch.

ooooh, those post-nap, sandy face crusties get you every time.

Happy Birthday, Deedee!

Little girl had her first birthday this past weekend. I wish I could say that we celebrated with pomp and circumstance, but the reality... well... we forgot. oops! Actually, we routinely forget the girls' birthdays, but we did feel kinda bad about missing Deedee's very first!

We tried to make up for it with an abundance of love. As a matter of fact, this spoiled little puglet -- not puppy anymore! -- gets so much love on a daily basis, every day is like her birthday.
