Well after a whole afternoon of... not-swimming... the puppy was exhausted. She displayed a rare moment of affection and cuddlage.

Testing the water
Over the holidays, Deedee got to meet and hang out with her cousin, Juniper. Juniper is a little shy. Deedee practically had to shove her nonexistant little muzzle into her face in order to get any dog attention.
Oh, ho. what's this? Is Juniper happily swimming in the pool? retrieving? fetching? in general having the time of her life?
Let me just say that it is rare for Deedee to encounter water in the pool variety. She is uncertain.
And yet, what is apparently so fun and comfortable for her Lab cousin, is proving pretty alluring for the puglet.
Does she dare? one pug pawlet, indecisively waving in the air...
oh, that was not a good start. not a good start at all.

Three pugs, three pugs, three pugs
I know. These are not MY three pugs. But one can hardly argue with my math. And Deedee had SUCH a good time playing and snuggling with her cousins. Don't you think that Rikki and Deedee look so much alike?
This is the fearsome three, banding together to beg for our dinner. How can you resist those eyes?
Three hot pugs. Three little pink tongues.

What a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
In between massive heat waves pulverizing Manhattan during our visit, we decided to take advantage of a brief lull in humidity (only 70%!), and take the pugs for a walk along the Hudson River.
Isn't it beautiful? Rikki thinks so.
ah. i can feel the gentle breeze massaging my perfect rosebud ears.
And yet, apparently the 'feardy-cat puglet is not so interested in communing with river nature to actually descend the stairs. oooooooohhhhh, no. There are no stairs in this delicate puglet's future.
I don't know how I managed to get such an unblurry shot, I was laughing so hard. Who knew a 13# puglet could be so strong?
no! i will not go down the steps! carry me, beetch!

More sleeping pugs
So where were Bunni and Rikki while all this shameless inactivity was going on? Well, sleeping, of course. They ARE pugs.
auntie. that is incredibly annoying. we cannot sleep with all that shutter clicking. we don't know how u do things in california, but manhattan pugs require beauty rest.
Oh fine, little puglets. Go ahead and sleep.
Of course, there are the rare moments of consciousness. Here they are on their dada's fave chair. This is right after 1) I gave them shnergles, 2) they reared up in dismay, and 3) stalked away to a safe, auntie-free place.
And the best for last is a darling pic of Rikki and Deedee sleeping like peas in a pod.

That puppy sho' does sleep a lot
In between mauling and being mauled by her cousins, Deedee managed to get in quite a bit of sleepy time.
Sort of like taking a handful of cooked noodles and just throwing them onto the sofa. That's my pug.
I'm not even sure she can breathe in that pic. I AM pretty sure that she got shnergled within an inch of her life after the following pic.
Annnnnd here she is, taking up all the space in her cousins' bed with her little watermelon body. She is totally unabashed.
wha, mama. why don't we have beds this nice at home?

Hot Pug!
Deedee and I flew to Manhattan to visit the cousin pugs, Bunni and Rikki! We managed to visit during a Serious Heat Wave.
Luckily, the floor was semi-cool. Oh, to be a pug. and be able to lie, belly-flat, on the floor. It was, quite literally, the place to be.
Note that Rikki keeps just a smidgen of one eye open, just in case there's a belly rub coming her way.
I think Bunni fell asleep, mid-beg.

Still no camera cable
So... I dug up these old pics of Cleo as a little puppy. Even then, you could tell she was going to have an impressive muzzle.
Look at that sweet face. no wonder we decided to keep her.
Sasha looks more than little alarmed to find that she is no longer the only pug in the house.
Cleo won her heart over, eventually.

Foiled!
So I have all these pictures on my camera from my and Deedee's trip back East, but I am completely stymied and unable to access them because I left my camera cable back in Boston. so... while the cable is traveling in the mail back to me, I leave you with this pic of Deedee and Cleo looking deceptively companion-like.
