A very good guard pug

Way back in time, when we were deciding upon which breed of dog to rule over us adopt, we thought it would be nice to have a dog that could serve the dual purpose of companion AND protector.  Wouldn't it be great to have a great big dog to make us feel safe when walking along dark city streets? we said.

Well, clearly we went with the companion only option.  Although, every once in a while, Deedee will show us that she's not incapable of monitoring the situation for potential threats.

i got my eye on u yes i'm talking to u

Not sure what, if anything, is going to happen after the notification stage.  Pugs aren't exactly known for their ferocity.

Chillin' in the shade

It was a hot weekend.  Even worse since central air conditioning is a rare commodity in these here parts.

The puglets made do by staying cool in the shade.  And lounging on people furniture so as to not roast themselves on the sun-baked ground.  I don't think I need to mention that there were bonbons involved.

Cleo thinks it's time for another snack

Deedee's nose wrinkle is melting a little. She may need an ice cube, stat.

Sasha would like to know when nap time is.

Little princess

I came home the other day to an unusually quiet pug greeting.  Normally I have 2 to 3 pugs flinging their little watermelon bodies at me for attention.  That day, I was merely sniffed by an uber-cool Sasha.  This does sometimes happen when the pugs have had a lot of activity earlier in the day, say, perhaps barking all stinkin' day at the villains lurking about our house.

So I was a little trepidatious (thank you, Little Mermaid) when I entered the living room.  I fully expected to see prostrate pugs with flecks of dried foam about their mouths, with a blinking answering machine full of messages from irate neighbors in the background.

i am way too comfortable to sit up, mama

Apparently, someone thought Cleo looked a little cold.  and perhaps a bit sad.  So the pug got covered up with a blanket.  And it appears that Cleo had been in that exact position for a number of hours.

I guess Deedee didn't make it to the bed in time to get tucked in.

Sunny spot

What is it with sunny spots and pugs?  Bunni is drawn to patch of carpet by the gimongous window, warmed by the sun.

At least Bunni, unlike my pugs, is ready to move to a cooler spot on the super comfy sofa when the sun gets too warm.

do i get a prize for smartness?

Poor Rikki.  No one ever ever pets her.

pet me.

Could she look any more pathetic.

Killing time

Bunni and Rikki (the puglets' fawn pug cousins, now living in Washington DC) accompanied us to get our morning coffee and croissant.  But, what's this? No Pugs Allowed!  Sacre bleu!  We will just sit here and wait pathetically for the pug mama to emerge.

we've been abandoned. and we're hungry for macarons.

We all know what a pug likes to do with her spare time.  Other than nap and eat, that is.  She likes to peep.  There's a verrrrrry inviting spot right next to the bakery.

that's just asking to be sprinkled

But, wait!  What is this?  Zut alor!

it's really stretching the definition of 'flowerbed'

The puglets go back to their vigil.

Nothing like sisters

It's so heartwarming, as a pug mama, to see your pug babies take to each other's company like ants to strawberry jam.  In this particular case, the two pugs in question are actually biological littermates, but the point is, that Bunni and Rikki's mama has done good.

nestled like 2 fava beans

I swear that no human had anything to do with this pose.  Little girls did it all on their own.

Right down to the both-ears-flung-back position.  Now that's sisterly love.

oops...

You know how sometimes you get into a blogging funk, and life starts to take over, and it's much more attractive to snuggle the pugs than to post pictures of them?

Let's just say that the girls have been kissed and cuddled within an inch of their lives.
